And The Winner Is…

We have been absolutely blown away by the incredible creativity and ambition you all have shown us over the past five days. The response to our Mentorship for a Year contest has been off the charts.

Chase, Caleb and I have spent the past couple of days devouring the nearly 250 entries. You made us laugh, smile, think and feel. It was nearly an impossible task to choose just one, but in the end we have a very deserving winner.

I’ll review the winner in just a minute.

But first, I have a confession. We came up with the idea of this contest as a fun way to build some buzz around the launch of Fizzle tomorrow. But after the response from you all, we knew we had to change our plans.

We’re still launching Fizzle tomorrow, but we’re dedicating today’s post to you, the contest and the winners instead of to the details about the launch. I’m so excited to tell you about Fizzle — I’m more proud of it than anything else I’ve created in my career so far — but it can wait until tomorrow.

The truth is, you all showed exactly what Fizzle is about during the contest. The spirit of your entries, your drive, abandon and passion reminded us why we do this, what we’re building and working so hard for. Today we want to pay homage to that spirit above all.

(Note: we unabashedly believe Fizzle is the best home and catalyst for that spirit. So be sure to subscribe here or there to get an email tomorrow with full details and a special launch-day discount.)

Bradley Charbonneau put it perfectly in a comment in the contest entries:

If you could harness the energy, ideas, and passion from the almost 200 entrepreneurs above, it could power a battleship. It’s a venture capitalist’s dream waiting room, a think tank, a group of gung-ho go-getters who can’t wait for 2013.

It’s been fun, inspiring and surprising to follow–but I know we’re all just getting started. You have started 2013 with a bang and I just wanted to thank you first for offering up your challenge as a prize, but secondly for the side benefits: we all wrote out a business plan of sorts early in 2013. It’s an important step to get that plan out there, especially out of our own heads and down on paper.

We’re all a step ahead for accepting your challenge. It’s going to be a huge year. Thanks for getting it rolling.

We agree. Well said, Bradley.

First, a Heartfelt Thanks

We wish all 250 of you could win, and we wish we could work directly with each of you. Unfortunately we had to pick a winner from the group.

If you didn’t win this contest, we hope your entry helped you think about what you want to achieve this year.

We know some of you pushed your comfort zone a lot to create your entries. Some of you created videos for the first time. Many of you launched entirely new sites just for the contest. Some of you reached out to new people for support and advice.

Use that momentum. Let it carry you forward and help you make this year the year you accomplished something big and moved closer to your ultimate goals.

Let this be the beginning of something important.

Thank you all for entering our little contest, we appreciate every word, thought, song, video, poem, artwork and everything else you created.

Now on to the winner(s).

The Winner(s)

There was so much awesomeness packed in your entries, we couldn’t possibly just pick a winner. We’ll also be recognizing several others and giving away other prizes in addition to our big first prize.

First Place: Mentorship for a Year

Picking first place was an agonizing process. The entire Think Traffic team spent days reviewing your submissions against a set of criteria aimed at choosing the person we think we can help do big things over the next year.

In the end, our winner is someone we’re confident we can help and will have a great time working with.

The winner is…

Richard Boehmcke of

Here is Richard’s original entry to our contest:

Richard wins a lifetime deluxe membership in Fizzle plus a full year of mentorship from us. We’ll be working with Richard each week to make help him turn Make Better Videos into the next big thing.

Congrats Richard! We can’t wait to get started with you. We’ll follow up later this week to schedule our first call.

Runners Up: A Year of Fizzle Plus a One-on-one Session

Next, we have two other fantastic entries tied for second place:

Congrats Andreea and Kerri! Thanks for your impressive entries.

Each of you wins a year of deluxe membership to Fizzle plus a private one-on-one coaching call with us. We’ll follow up this week to schedule our call.

Honorable Mentions: 3-Month Fizzle Memberships Plus Group Coaching

To round out our winners, we have 9 more honorable mentions:

Each of our honorable mentions wins a 3-month deluxe Fizzle membership plus a special intimate group coaching call with two other honorable mentions. We’ll follow up shortly to schedule the call with each of you.

These Made Us Laugh (in a good way)

A few entries that didn’t quite make the winner’s cut above deserve to be mentioned as well. These entries made us laugh:

Thanks guys for making this contest fun :)

Closing Thoughts

Chase, Caleb and I were all truly moved by the explosive creativity you all showed during this contest. Sincerely from each of us: thank you for reminding us what this stuff is all about.

I hope the work you did to put your pitch together for this contest will help you take a step (and another) towards making something you’re truly proud of.

More to come on the Fizzle launch tomorrow. Till then: go, do! Make your art, and make it exceptional.

    1. Congratulation Aaron, you may not be the first but you have did well to be in that position too and i also congratulate all other winners. the overall thanks goes to Thinktraffic for the wonderful come up for the prizes.

  1. Wow.

I’m *very* chuffed to be amongst the honourable mentions, and be amongst the first to try out Fizzle, thank you!

You guys must have put in a hell of a lot of hours to reach a decision. That on its own is impressive… as is the energy radiating off everyone involved in the competition.

Go forth and prosper, folks :)

    I have to pinch myself!

Getting an Honorable Mention for means the world to me – thank you so, so much!

As an existing member of Fizzle for the past few months I also want to say Thank You. The community is so warm and welcoming and the video tutorials & founder stories got me over many hurdles along the way (the WordPress tutorials were a life saver!).

Because I’m already a Fizzle member, and because I know just how valuable it’s content has been to me, I would like to give away my 3-Month Fizzle Membership to another entrant (if that is ok with you).

The “Evolution of Publishing” entry by Tom Morkes really resonated with me ( I can see the fire in his eyes and the burning desire in his heart. I believe in him, and I really want him to join us over on Fizzle.

Thank you once again Corbett, Caleb and Chase. It’s an incredible honour.

  3. Woo! Thanks guys! I’m so proud to be part of a group of incredibly talented difference-makers. Can’t wait to see what comes next from everyone.

    With gratitude,

  4. Congrats to everyone and especially Richard for being the winner! Really liked this video. Came across as genuine and serious about this.

  5. Congratulations to Richard, Andreaa, Kerri, Aaron, Chris Jacob, James Lopez, James Grieg, Ashley, Dusti, JJ, Darlene, and John!

This is what the contest was all about. Soo many great people have been brought together through this friendly competition, glad I could be a part of it!

This core group that came together was absolutely incredible. Now I didn’t do my homework on everyone, but I definitely watched some videos and was blown away.

I’m truly honored to have been mentioned and am grateful for the opportunity to give some of you a laugh!

I woke up at 6:15am to read this post! haha! So to all of the winners, honorable mentions and non winners, here’s to your success in 2013! Time for breakfast and more importantly time to create something epic! :)

  6. Good on you for having more than just a single winner! Congrats to you all!

I’d love to see a post on January 15, 2014 (a year from today) titled, “Where are they now?” and we could all post how we made 2013 a banner year.

    Thanks again, C, C & C!

  7. Good result all round, Corbett.

Delighted for the winners, well deserved.

The best of Irish luck to you Richard, and to all the winners.

    Great competition, Great prize. !!

  8. Congrats to the winners! Loved seeing the fire that fueled everyone.

Side question for Corbett or anyone else involved in the testing of Fizzle: I’m starting to realize my passion and how I can really use it to help people online. I’ve been eyeing the Start a Blog that Matters course for awhile and am ready to make the jump (and never look back). How does Fizzle fit in? Is it a complement to the course? Is it too much to take on both at once?

I’m supremely excited for what’s going on in this space. Congrats again to everyone!

    ::Deep breath::

Coherent thoughts to follow but for now, extreme gratitude, feeling like the luckiest guy in the world today.

    Thank you.

    1. So fired up for you, Richard! As I was editing the post i was BEAMING from ear to ear each time I read out your name. Everyone in the coffee shop was like this.

Congrats, man. Your hunger and all-in-ness were infective. Looking forward to working with you!

    2. Totally agree with the Three C’s choice on this! Richard, your entry was fantastic, and it’s so clear that you’re going to crush it. Can’t wait to see what you do. :)

    3. haha Chase you rock man. Thanks so much, so flattered. And also, I wish more coffee shops had pelicans.

And Caleb I can’t wait to learn man. So thirsty for the knowledge. Absolutely cannot wait!

  10. Well done Richard Boehmcke :)
    Impressive submission.
I’m looking forward to learning more from your video skills in the future.
The best of luck to you!

  11. Congrats to all the winners. You guys are awesome. (Maybe a little too awesome :)

I think Bradley put it the best: If you could harness the energy, ideas, and passion from the almost 200 entrepreneurs above, it could power a battleship. It’s a venture capitalist’s dream waiting room, a think tank, a group of gung-ho go-getters who can’t wait for 2013.

So I built a battleship. But it’s really just a Facebook group that I want you guys to join — I’d love to bring all of us together – for inspiration, accountability, feedback, connecting and some fun – and get 2013 started off strong.

If you’d like to join, head here:

See you there and congrats again, everyone!

  12. Congratulations Richard! I loved your video and it’s a well-deserved win. I have no doubt that your hunger, commitment and drive will propel you, and those who you help, to great places.

Video is such a powerful medium, and when it’s done with brevity, the impact is even more profound.

Btw, I could totally use your services :).

I’m looking forward to tracking your upward mobility and success.

Lastly, I really enjoyed the entry by John Muldoon of Monthly Experiments. Your mindfulness challenge for December was trying, entertaining and enlightening. You’re also very generous with your talents and insight in the Fizzle forums. And you make me laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh….

    1. Linda, you seriously crack me up!

Thank you for your kind words, for your generous contributions to #MindfulDecember and your ability to make me laugh like no other. You’re a gem, and a huge part of what makes Fizzle great. So happy to know you. :)

  13. Wow, thanks so much for including me! You guys had a hugely difficult task choosing from so many deserving people. I really love what Bradley said above.

No matter what, this community is filled with amazing people who can do amazing things. I hope to see everyone continue this momentum and build something that has a positive impact on others.

  14. Huge congratulations to all the winners in this competition. You’ve proven just how much more I need to put into my mission. I think Bobbi Emel said it best when she talked about everyone here is a team. All rooting for each other. Success to you all.

  16. Congrats to all the winners! Looking forward to seeing how that video blog turns out :) I want to eventually make videos on a regular basis myself…

  17. Congrats Richard and all for winning. Thanks Corbett and team for carrying out such a great event. It’s great to see the momentum you are creating out there.

  18. Yay for Dusti and Darlene, WDS ftw!!! And congrats to the rest of the winners.

@Richard, I need to learn to make “a” video as well as “better” videos, so very psyched to see what comes along.

  19. Congratulations for all the winners. I am very proud of you who have been working hard. You deserve this. I want to be like you all. You do give me motivation and inspiration which can not be bought by money. Thank you for all examples you have given me…
