Monthly Report

Welcome to another Think Traffic monthly report. If you’re new here, this is the monthly feature where I summarize how we grew the audience for this site over the past month, and explain what we’ll be doing to grow the audience further next month.

Growing an online audience isn’t easy, but it isn’t really complicated either. The formula is simple: 1) identify a need or desire and a way to address it in a new/better way, 2) create outstanding content or a product/service that fills that need/desire and 3) get the word out about what you’ve created.

Of course, the devil is in the details, but that’s the basic formula every successful site follows. That’s exactly what we’ve been doing here since this site launched in March of 2010.

What went on in September?

The Million Dollar Blog Project has already made a pretty big impact here at Think Traffic. We dedicated 2/3rds of the posts last month to the project, and the focus is paying off in new visitors and deeper reader engagement for Think Traffic.

What went on in August?

August can be a tricky month for blogs and online businesses. So many people are out on vacation and enjoying summer that traffic and sales can easily slump temporarily.

In fact, some bloggers decide to take part of the month off themselves, or simply to publish less frequently. I’ve been traveling in the U.S. and now Europe since August 1st myself, but have been keeping a steady posting schedule thanks to the help I’ve gotten recently from our new assistant editor Caleb.

I’m happy to report that this August for Think Traffic was a fantastic month, and that traffic didn’t slump at all.

How’d we keep the site growing during the slowest month of the summer? I’ll explain that in a moment.

Welcome to the monthly report for Think Traffic for July, 2011!

Each month, I post an update on what we’ve been doing to grow the audience for Think Traffic. I also occasionally write about how we’ve been earning revenue for this blog-based business.

It’s actually been about six weeks since the last monthly report. Since I started this blog back in March of 2010, I had been posting monthly reports from the 16th of the month to the following 15th (mid-month start and end dates). This month I decided to reset the calendar and go with standard months.

This report will cover the whole month of July.

Important Happenings Last Month

A couple of important things happened here last month. First, we reopened Traffic School to new students for about three days in early July. More details on how the launch went in a minute.

We squeaked out another record month last month here at Think Traffic…

In this report, I’m going to start by sharing a secret about building web traffic that makes self promotion unnecessary (if you want it to be).

If you’re new here, each month I write a monthly report detailing exactly what we’ve been doing to build traffic to this site.

We share full details about how much traffic the site is getting, where it comes from and how we got it. These reports cover the period from the 16th to the 15th of each following month (this site originally launched on the 16th of March, 2010).
